Frequently Asked

Questions

  • Trickster Press is an authorship studio and hybrid publishing house.

We help people become authors through structured creative guidance, editorial partnership, and accessible publishing support.

  • We offer a range of development, editing, consulting, design, formatting, and publishing solutions designed to help you get your book out there.

Whether you're just getting started on your project or struggling to reach the finish line, we can help you playfully beat perfectionism and publish your book in way less time than you ever thought possible.

  • Sometimes called a “vanity press,” a hybrid publisher provides professional services to writers to help publish their books. This makes publishing more accessible and approachable than pitching a traditional publishing house which often have high levels of gatekeeping and long wait times.

As a hybrid publisher, authors can either self-publish with our support, or we can publish their books in-house as official Trickster Press titles, given that the books meet our publication criteria.

  • As a hybrid publisher, we currently do not follow the model of paying advances to authors.

We instead offer paid, professional authorship services at an industry-accessible rate, and hands-on, human support to help you publish your book, either independently, or as a Trickster Press title.

  • Yes, absolutely! Our services cover a wide range of your needs, and we’re happy to support your desire to publish with a traditional house.

We can help coach you on writing a book proposal, review your manuscript for readiness, or step in as your trusted editor to get you to the finish line.

  • No, we currently do not offer guaranteed distribution to physical stores. We help you set up your book for online and print distribution via Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and any other preferred distribution platforms. Retailers may purchase your book via these platforms, however that’s a longer conversation for later.

In addition to supporting you with these methods of distribution, we offer consultation and coaching to help you position and sell your books in local, independent retailers in your area.

  • Ah, AI. This conversation we all never expected to have, so soon.

Prior to launching Trickster Press, we have battle-tested AI on various stages of the writing and publishing process.

We have done our due diligence to explore the capacity and limitations of AI, as well as the ethical considerations of using it, especially in the process of book creation.

We are artists, and we champion human art. We totally stand with you if you are repulsed by AI and don’t want to use it.

Our default remains to use NO AI in our client work, with one exception . We do currently use Otter.ai to capture audio transcriptions during our client sessions, as the cost and time to manually record and transcribe every meeting would significantly stall our operations.

That being said, if you would like to, or are already incorporating more creative AI tools in your writing process, we offer a non-judgmental approach. We always want to prioritize the authenticity and unique signature of your voice, which can be so easily lost to the robot.

We are happy to support and guide you on best practices for using AI in your work, and/or incorporate it on your project on a case-by-case basis.

  • Depending on what stage you’re at, finishing your book can happen quickly, almost as if by magic - when you have the right support and know exactly what steps to take.

We’ve written books in as little as seven days, and taken an idea from concept to shelf in less than 3 months. Most projects average 6-8 weeks, though some can stretch to 6 months or longer.

Our goal is to help you realize that publishing your book can happen faster than you ever thought possible, at a quality you didn’t even know you could reach.

Start with a 15 minute chat, and we’ll go from there.

  • We are currently building a scholarship program to help authors in need of financial assistance.

For now, all our service prices are fixed. We offer services at every stage of book creation, so you never have to commit to more of our help than you actually need.

  • Unless we publish your book as a Trickster Press title, you bear 100% responsibility for the final draft of your book, and for your own creative satisfaction. You could theoretically work with us for 6 months, and still decide after that, you want to change everything about your book. That’s fine! No hard feelings on our end. You own the work.

We will always provide the most personal, thoughtful and professionally sound support we can to you on your authorship journey.

If at any point during the process of working with us you are not satisfied, we are happy to pause and reassess our approach to find a better way forward for you.

However, due to the intangible nature of creative support and the immeasurable hours invested into offering our expertise, we do not offer refunds, except in special circumstances.
